HanXun Reader Privacy Policy
Updated: October 24, 2026 Effective: November 1, 2026
HanXun Reader is developed and operated by the individual developer Sun Xun (孙逊) ("we"). Contact email: HanXunReader@QinJianHanxun.com.
This English version is a translation for convenience. If it differs from the Chinese version, the Chinese version prevails.
In short: your books, reading progress, notes and reading history are stored on your own devices (and, with sync on, in your own cloud space or WebDAV storage). We have no server that collects personal information. Only reading aloud, translation, sync and downloading the offline dictionary go online, and each time the app sends only what that task needs. The app has no ads and no analytics or other third-party SDKs.
1. What stays on your device
Imported books (with their titles, authors and covers), reading positions, highlights, notes, bookmarks and groups; your reading history (how long you read or listened each time and which books you finished, used for reading stats and the year in review); your settings; service keys and WebDAV passwords you enter (kept in the system keystore); and a randomly generated device ID (used to tell your devices apart when syncing, unrelated to the device serial number). We never receive any of this.
2. What is sent when the app goes online
- Reading aloud: By default the app uses Microsoft's online voices, which sound more natural. While reading aloud it sends the sentences being read to Microsoft to synthesize speech, without the book title or any identifying information. Reading aloud continues, and keeps sending, when the screen is locked or you switch to another app. You can switch to the system voice in Settings, and then the text never leaves the device.
- Translation: When you tap "Translate", the selected text is sent to a translation service: Microsoft Translator and Google Translate by default, or Baidu Translate or DeepL if you set them up under Settings → Keys.
- Offline dictionary: When you tap "Download" under Settings → Selection, the dictionary file is downloaded from our server dict.qinjianhanxun.com on Cloudflare, and nothing else is sent. The server sees your device's network address during the download; we don't record it or use it to identify you. After that, lookups happen on the device without going online.
- Sync: Your progress, notes, bookmarks, groups and reading history (combined across your devices for stats), along with information used to recognize books (title, author, language, file digest, file name and size), the device name and the random ID, are stored in your HUAWEI Cloud (the default) or the WebDAV storage you entered. We never receive them. The books themselves are not synced. Sync runs automatically when the app opens, comes back to the foreground, and when a book is closed.
- Diagnostics: These leave the device only if you copy them in About and send them yourself. They contain the device model, system and app versions and the app log, and do not deliberately record book titles or content.
These services handle the data under their own privacy policies. For details, see the "Personal Information Collected" and "Personal Information Shared with Third Parties" lists under Settings → About → Privacy & terms. All network connections are encrypted (HTTPS).
3. Permissions
The app uses only two, neither of which needs your separate approval. Network: for reading aloud, translation and sync. Background running: to keep reading aloud with the screen locked. Books are imported through the system file picker, so the app sees only the files you pick.
4. Your choices
- View, correct, delete: Books, progress and notes can be viewed, changed and deleted in the app at any time. Reading history can be turned off and cleared under Settings → Stats (clearing also removes this device's synced copy). Files synced to your cloud space or WebDAV storage can be deleted there. Uninstalling the app deletes all its data on the device. When you delete a book, its reading history is kept so the year in review can still show its title.
- Withdraw consent: At the bottom of Settings → About → Privacy & terms → Privacy Policy. After withdrawing, the app works on this device only: reading aloud uses the system voice, translation and sync stop, and your books and notes stay.
- Account deletion: HanXun Reader has no accounts, so there is nothing to delete.
- Contact us: Write to HanXunReader@QinJianHanxun.com. We reply within fifteen working days.
5. Minors
HanXun Reader is not intended for children under fourteen. Minors should use it with a guardian's consent and supervision.
6. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, you will see a notice the next time you open the app and will need to agree again.
